Define term dating relationship
"I learned a lot while in Ireland (and France, Belgium) about romance and relationships, and you can read all about my adventures elsewhere (see: What Does Shifting Mean in Irish Slang, and Dating in Ireland).First, I had to come up with a way to describe what I do for a living. She said, "We've been seeing each other on and off for two years! For a man it was come to my house bring food get naked." Friend: "To a guy, that means: When I have a buzz on, I'd like to see you with your clothes off." I've never been able to hear someone use that expression since without laughing. Seeing someone is texting them drunk at saying "what are you up to" then heading to their place for sloppy monkey sex and waking up the next day then leaving before traffic gets heavy.I'm just saying let's call dating what it actually is, and then everything else, well, whatever it actually is.What is the difference between "Seeing someone" and "Dating someone"? Logically speaking, a relationship should progress from being open and inclusive of all possibilities to one of exclusive nature with one person.99% of the men that emailed me had a problem with that status because it seems most people equate dating with being in a relationship/"seeing someone". I asked some of my expat friends, most of whom are Canadian, about this.
Now, there's hooking up, friends with benefits, casual dating, and all manner of other things. There's no courtship, there's zero determining if you're compatible romantically or long term.
But then again, this is not the norm everywhere, nor is it the only possibility.
